Md. Zakir Hossain has joined at the Center for People and Environ as Head of Research.He graduated in Organic Farming from Wageningen University in 1999. For over 20 years, Zakir has been active in climate change, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development, particularly in the UNDRR Global Champion Community of East Sujonkathi.
Zakir advocates for local ownership of development policies and integrates community input into policy-making. His work, often funded by the community, includes significant roles in various global forums and organizations, such as representing NGOs at multiple COPs and UN events. He has also been a co-lead for the NGO Major Group at the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 and is involved with the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) and the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA). Most recently, he delivered a Farmers Constituency statement at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023.
