Article Format

ICJSP publishes two types of articles: Original Research and Review articles. We recommend writing concisely and adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Articles should be in 11-point Times New Roman font.
  • The main text should not exceed 6,000 words (excluding Abstract, Methods, References, and figure legends).
  • The title should be no longer than 30 words and must concisely describe the article’s main message in a single scientifically accurate sentence. Avoid using puns or idioms.
  • The abstract should be a maximum of 300 words.

Abstract The Abstract should not include references and should serve as a general introduction to the topic while summarizing the key findings and their implications. It should be unstructured, without sections or subheadings.

Keywords You may include up to 6 keywords or key phrases for indexing purposes, which should reflect the main content of the submission.

Manuscript The manuscript file should start with a title page listing author affiliations and contact details, with the corresponding author marked with an asterisk. Each section should provide background information, with some overlap with the Abstract allowed. The manuscript should include the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results (with subheadings)
  • Discussion (without subheadings)
  • Recommendations and Conclusion
  • References
  • Acknowledgments (optional)

Please note, footnotes should not be used.

We do not automatically include page or line numbers in the materials sent to Editorial Board Members and reviewers. Please consider including those in your manuscript; this can help facilitate the evaluation of the paper and make giving feedback on specific sections easier.

Your submission must also include:

  • A cover letter explaining the significance of your article for broader communities (and a justification for any waiver if applicable)
  • Individual figure and map files, along with any optional supplementary information files

A submission template is available to assist with preparing the manuscript to meet JCSP’s formatting standards. For Submission use this Article Submission page.

Revised Manuscripts For revised manuscripts, submit all text in a single Microsoft Word file. PDFs are not accepted for the article text. Make sure you:

  • Format the manuscript file as single-column text without justification.
  • Supply any figures as individual files.
  • Combine and supply any Supplementary Information as a separate file
  • Include the title of the manuscript and author list on the first page of the Supplementary Information file.
  • Include the name of the lead author and article title as the file name (Prottoy_Bangladesh)

Writing your manuscript

JCSPis read by a truly diverse range of researchers, scientists, academicians, development practitioners, etc. Please therefore give careful thought to communicating your findings as clearly as possible. Although you can assume a shared basic knowledge of science, please don’t expect that everyone will be familiar with the specialist language or concepts of your particular field. Therefore:

  • Avoid technical jargon wherever possible, explaining it clearly when it is unavoidable.
  • Keep abbreviations to a minimum, particularly when they are not standard.
  • If you must use an abbreviation, make sure you spell it out fully in the text or legend the first time it appears.
  • Clearly explain the background, rationale, and main conclusions of your study.
  • Write titles and abstracts in language that will be readily understood by any scientist.

We recommend that you have a colleague from a different field review your manuscript before submission to identify any unclear concepts or terminology.

Copy editing services

We provide in-depth copy editing as part of the production process with payment. So, if you feel your manuscript would benefit from someone looking at the copy editing, please consider using a copy editing or language editing service.  We have an affiliate who can provide you with these services: Copy Editing Service. As a Scientific Reports author, you are entitled to a 10% discount on your first submission to either of these.

Methods There are no word limits for the methods section. Ensure you provide enough experimental and characterization data for reproducibility. Include details of standard protocols, experimental procedures, and identify the sources of any kits used.

References We do not edit references, so please ensure they are correctly formatted. At JCSP, we follow the APA 7 referencing style. References should be:

  • Sequential and numbered
  • In square brackets
  • Linked to one publication per number
  • Include only published or accepted works, or datasets from recognized preprint servers or data repositories.

Acknowledgements Keep acknowledgements brief and avoid thanking anonymous referees and editors. Acknowledge funding or contribution numbers as needed.

Ethics declarations

If your research includes human or animal subjects, you will need to include the appropriate ethics declarations in the Methods section of your manuscript.

Approval for animal experiments

For experiments involving live vertebrates and/or higher invertebrates, your Methods section must include a statement that:

  1. Identifies the institutional and/or licensing committee that approved the experiments, including any relevant details.
  2. Confirms that all experiments were performed by relevant guidelines and regulations.
  3. Confirm that the authors complied with the ARRIVE guidelines.

Approval for human experiments

For experiments involving human subjects (or tissue samples), your Methods section must include a statement that:

  1. Identifies the institutional and/or licensing committee that approved the experiments, including any relevant details.
  2. Confirms that all experiments were performed under relevant named guidelines and regulations.
  3. Confirms that informed consent was obtained from all participants and/or their legal guardians.

Consent to participate/Consent to publish

Please note that:

  1. Study participant names (and other personally identifiable information) must be removed from all text/figures/tables/images.
  2. The use of colored bars/shapes or blurring to obscure the eyes/facial region of study participants is not an acceptable means of anonymization. For manuscripts that include information or images that could lead to the identification of a study participant, your Methods section must include a statement that confirms informed consent was obtained to publish the information/image(s) in an online open-access publication.
