Mst. Shamima Akter is a dedicated environmental science professional with a robust academic background and extensive hands-on experience. She holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Environmental Science from Jashore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, and a specialized Master’s in Marine Plastics Abatement from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
Currently a Research Assistant at the Center for People and Environment (CPE), Shamima handles laboratory maintenance, field sample collection, analysis, data collection, literature reviews, report writing, and project management. Her significant projects include climate change impact studies, urban climate risk profiling, and plastic waste recycling assessments.
Shamima has published research on microplastics and heavy metals contamination and its implications on public health in freshwater and marine ecosystems in top-tier international journals and presented her findings at several international conferences. Recognized with the National Science and Technology Fellowship and the Vice Chancellor Award, she is proficient in ArcGIS, QGIS, R, SPSS, and various lab instruments.
In addition, her excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, coupled with active community engagement, make her a valuable asset in environmental research and stewardship.
