Heatwave

The Center for People and Environ, South Asian Research Hub, and Earth Initiatives are going to organize a Discussion Series on Heatwave: Trends, Consequences and Heat Adaptation in Bangladesh.
The discussion series on heatwaves would focus on the impacts, causes, and potential solutions to mitigate the risks posed by these extreme heat events. The discussion would likely cover topics like the increased frequency and intensity of heatwaves due to climate change, the vulnerability of certain populations (especially the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions), and the broader consequences of heatwaves on infrastructure, agriculture, and ecosystems.
Health:
Discuss the direct and indirect health impacts, including heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and exacerbation of chronic conditions.
Infrastructure:
Consider the effects on infrastructure like roads, power grids, and water systems.
Agriculture:
Explore the impact on crop yields, livestock, and water resources.
Ecosystems:
Analyze the consequences on ecosystems, including increased wildfires and impacts on biodiversity.
Economic:
Discuss the economic costs of heatwaves, including healthcare expenses, damage to infrastructure, and lost productivity.
